“This bar was great, I'm so angry we didn't find it on the first night, because we would've stayed there until it closed.”
“We need more Yankees fans however, but the $1.25 Busch drafts are always delicious and cold, the bartenders love our sass and on any given night you can be surrounded by a few old drunks or a big group of sorority girls.”
“It was a great, great place to just hang out and be left alone, or talk to the people in there and shoot the breeze.”

“When you want cheap beer, good conversation, and the company of the best bar manager in Boston (Patrick), this is your spot.”
Great bar. Great bar, Lynne freindly barmaid , fun place came 2nd in there pub quiz with our team scotugal and we wernt even american ;lol jukebox good and sports channels on all the time , great place if you just want a beer or 2 without pretentions .
A bar that is *just* a bar in the middle of Boston. This place is a glorious dive, an endangered species in and around the common. The drinks are cheap, the pours are heavy and the decor is tacky as it comes. Be aware though, the place is cash only so be prepared for that. It is the only place like it in that area, the mix of people is as broad as you can imagine and as far as value, the Tam is king.
Best Dive Bar. This bar was great, I'm so angry we didn't find it on the first night, because we would've stayed there until it closed. It was a great, great place to just hang out and be left alone, or talk to the people in there and shoot the breeze. Beers were much cheaper than anywhere else, like Cheers, or MJ O'Conners, at 3.50 a beer. We were only in town for a couple of days, but this place is definitely a top bar for me.
Fun Place to Go. My friends and I stumbled in from Texas and knew from the moment we walked in the door that this was a cool place. Patrick and Lynn the Bartenders were awesome and made us feel at home just like everyone else there. We were surrounded by a wonderful mix of folks and had a great time. The draft beer was cheep and cold and the conversation was lively. It felt like home. My husband is going to Boston on business and I told him he had to got there. Cheers from Texas to all at THE TAM!
Best Dive Bar in Boston.. Love the Tam. When you want cheap beer, good conversation, and the company of the best bar manager in Boston (Patrick), this is your spot. When the front door opens, everyone in the bar leans back to look...and you never know who might walk in, from a group of hot college girls, to a local crackhead - it is alwasy interesting, and always a good time. Not sure what the other reviewer is talking about....Yankees hats are NOT WELCOME...so do yourself a favor and leave it at home.
A great hangout anytime!!!. The Tam was like a second home to me when I was a nanny in the Boston area from 1999-2001. I met every kind of individual you can imagine, from college hunks to drage queens to foreign tourists. When I got married in 2004 we drove to Niagra Falls, and then traveled down to Boston so that I could show my husband around the city that I had loved so much. He also loved the Tam.
Best jukebox ever.. I live in this bar. No lie. We need more Yankees fans however, but the $1.25 Busch drafts are always delicious and cold, the bartenders love our sass and on any given night you can be surrounded by a few old drunks or a big group of sorority girls. The Tam is a way of life.
A jambalaya of cheap booze, pennies and every type of barfly you can imagine..
In Short
Theatergoers meet Emerson students meet barflies meet drag queens in one of the city's most diverse and eccentric bars. A sign behind the bar says "A Classic American Neighborhood Bar," but there's no neighborhood to be found, just the boozy crossroads of the theater district. Need a drink on the cheap? Look around at all the signage on the wall, with certain pints costing $2 and selected mixed drinks coming in under $5.
