Great salon working for a great cause. For the past 3 years I was growing out my hair to donate to Locks of Love. When I finally decided to get the cut done, I chose DeKwa as I knew that they were one of the salons that would send the hair to Locks of Love for me. So with butterflies in my belly I entered the salon. Cherylann Esposito was so nice and so kind throughout the cut. She was so sweet when my mother took picture after picture after picture. Not to mention, I love my hair!!!! I have gotten so many compliments on the cut (which was free with the Locks of Love donation), and I was so impressed that she is donating her time and amazing skills to this cause. I will definately return to the salon and to see Cherylann for trims between now and my next Locks of Love cut.

Kwan is awesome!. I've been going to Kwan at Dekwa for the past 7+ years and she's quite amazing. I get my color and cut there. She's great with hair for asian women who have straight hair. Mine just lays there. But after a cut with Kwan, I always feel like a movie star, ready for the red carpet. I've even taken sample pictures to try out and she's always made my hair look good.

Great Atmosphere. It is never fun to think about covering greys, spending a chunk of your hard earned $ and fearing a bad cut. HOWEVER, all these worries go right out the window at DeKwa. I was forced to relax and have fun. No choice. All the staff I encountered was friendly, personable and accommodating. Kyle took great care of me (and my hair). I have received so many compliments on my new short cut. I only wish I lived closer, I would be in more often!

Curly Again. There is only one word to describe Kyle and his styling: FABULOUS! I went to him to donate my hair to Locks of Love. It is a very delicate process, because it means a drastic haircut. But the reviews on CitySearch lived up to their expectations and he really did a wonderful job. He is meticulous and cut my short do to my curls. I haven?t worn my hair curly in years, but I?m happy to say that I?m glad to see them again. Thank you Kyle. I?ll be seeing you again soon.

awful experience. This place was such a nightmare! to start with don't believe there reviews!!!!!! They pushed me into buying products that i really didnt need and i bought them anyway because i felt bad. i asked for a side bangs and betty gave me short uneven bangs right across my forhead. I am absolutely embarrased to leave my house. I got a partial foil, the color was fine except for the fact that on my part there are bleach marks everywhere. i was better off going to supercuts. very dissapointed.

We would like to sincerely apologize for your unfortunate experience. Some of the stylists are self employed. In this case, any product sales are really between the stylist and client. Even so, we would be happy to take the product back and reimburse you. We feel Betty is an amazing stylist who has had extensive education around the world, and has won many international competions. If you read all the reviews you will see many agree. If there is any way we can rectify the situation plese let us know.

Sincerely,

Salon Owners

Nice, but pricey. I tried out DeKwa recently for the first time after reading so many incredible reviews. Once I got to the salon I was a little disappointed to see that they bribe customers to post reviews with the promise of a free hair product. So I felt a bit that I had been duped. Just putting that out there.

That said, I DID enjoy my experience. Ingrid was fantastic, and I had a really good time talking with her. She cut my hair exactly like I wanted, which has been rare in my experience (usually I find that stylists tend to listen to you and say ok to your request, and then take your cut in a wholeeee different direction). She offered styling tips to suit my lifestyle (i.e. I am a "dry it and go" kind of girl, so she offered tips accordingly and didn't waste either of our time explaining some 35-minute hair care routine that I never would have followed), which I appreciated.

If you are a first time customer, go to their website and sign up for their eCuts emails. They will email you in the morning with open appointments for the day, and if you sign up for one, you get 20% off. So if you can be flexible, this is a great savings.

Unfortunately, the offer is good for first timers only, and I could never justify paying full price for one of their haircuts. My cut was $56 with the eCuts savings, which is totally do-able. Without that 20%, though, I would have to pay $70; to me, that's a little ridiculous.

So in short, I really liked DeKwa, but I won't be back. $70 is a bit beyond my limit. If you are willing to pay $70 for a haircut, though, you should go for it. I have tried other stylists/salons on Newbury, and I definitely liked this one (and Ingrid) the best.

I would like to thank you for your review. We value all opinions and are very excited about our clients posting on CitySearch. Reviews on Citysearch are a great way to support our staff. We have a very loyal clientelle and thought it would be great for them to share with others what they they like about their stylist and the salon.

Rewarding our clients who choose to write reviews online is our way of saying thank you and showing that we appreciate thier time and effort. We would never expect anyone to post something ingenuine just to get a free product.

Our prices vary from stylist to stylist, and our cuts begin anywhere between $50 and $75, an extremely competitive price point for Newbury Street that reflects the years of experience and training our staff posesses.

We are so glad that you found a match in Ingrid, and got the haircut you've been seeking. We are also glad to see you took advantage of our eCuts program. Thank you again for your review and best wishes.

Yoko hair straightening is the best thing I've ever done.. This is my third time at the salon and every experience has been great. I got the Yoko hair straightening treatment and is the best thing I've ever done. My hair is naturally wavy so I always had to dry my hair and use the straightening iron for it to be perfect. After the Yoko treatment I just wash my hair and go, don't need to dry it or anything and it always looks like I got out of the salon. It is definitely worth it.

Locks of Love with Kyle. I donated my hair to Locks of Love a while ago - and have been meaning to write a review. Kyle did an amazing job and I love my haircut. I got many comments and will certainly go back to him. Highly recommended.

pretty good. After reading some reviews, I decided to come here to get a perm. For the most part, I liked it. The space is very modern but a little small. I really liked it and it definitely didn't come out too curly, but it didn't last very long. After a couple of weeks, my hair seems pretty flat again. It didn't damage my hair too much, but I'm not sure if I would do it again as it did not seem like it would be worth the money.

Fantastic Experience. Ingrid recently cut my hair for locks of love and I had a fabulous experience. For almost 8 years I had very long hair so to cut it short was definitely a nerve-wracking experience. Ingrid was very comforting before and after the cut. Her staff was also very comforting, coming over to me during the cut and assuring me of how good it looked. I also told Ingrid how hair unsavvy I was and she was more than happy to teach me exactly how to do my hair and give me all sorts of great styling tips. Overall I was extremely satisfied. Coming from a very upscale salon in the past I was somewhat nervous to put my hair in someone else's hands. Dekwa exceeded my expectations and I am sure to return there in the future for any and all hair needs. Thank you Ingrid for doing such an amazing job!
