How to go to hell and back for a wedding dress.. The Scene
Twice a year, Filene's Basement has its nationally notorious wedding dress sale, for which brides begin lining up outside the store as early as 5am. Once they're in, these otherwise normal women turn into nothing short of demonic, violent shrews: They fight tooth and nail for dresses, and fly aggressively at the poor salesfolk who come out to replenish the racks' supply. They try dresses on in the middle of aisles and wail (seriously--we've seen it) when they can only find the style they want in a size 16.

The Goods
Designer dresses, many of which would normally retail in the thousands of dollars, cash out of this store at a mere $100 each. With that kind of steal, you can afford to buy a size 16 and pay a first-rate seamstress to make it a size 4 for an extra $200.
