Editorial Review for Diva Indian Bistro – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
Diva's bold colors, prominent bar and use of curves and corners could make you imagine you've entered a post-modern cocktail shaker backed by a performance-art kitchen. Diva is winning a strong following for good, authentic Indian cuisine.

The Food
The menu is endless, with lots of southern Indian dishes (lentil dumplings, stuffed crepes called dosas) to augment the clay-oven roasted meats of the north. Fried dishes are light and crispy, while sauced dishes are redolent of spice and the roasted meats are usually succulent and delicious. Diva's sleek bar goes to waste, however, backed by non-alcoholic wines and beers and used as a serving station for the ice-cream desserts. Eschew the thin spirits in favor of mineral water or soda with main dishes of mild or medium spice.

Diva has really gone down hill. The service was atrocious, our waiter barely spoke to us, and when my wife who had never had Indian food before asked him a question about the menu he mumbled something unintelligible and pretended he didn't understand. The bread sampler basket we ordered had almost no flavor. I'm not sure how you can mess up Nan, but they were dried out and tasted like they were shaken around in a bag of charcoal. The Tandori chicken my wife was ordered was drier than the Nan while my dish was ok, it just didn't have much flavor. I had to get up and ask the host for refills on our water because the waiter never came back to the table, and when my wife finished with her drink, she found there was a fly in one of the ice cubes. The host comped her drink but that was it. We will never go there again. The next time my wife decides to give Indian food a shot we'll brave the wait at Punjabs instead.

Pros: The atmosphere while load is nice.

Cons: Service, Food

I don't know what some of the other users are complaining about- especially when it comes to the waiters. I've been to Diva several times- the food has always been great, and the service very good and the waiters polite. Moreover, the restaurant is one of the nicest in terms of atmosphere in all of Somerville.

Pros: Food, Atmosphere

Cons: None
