Editorial Review for Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University Art Museums – by Citysearch Staff
The Scene
The Fogg was built in 1927 around a central courtyard adapted from a 16th century Italian church. The museum is small, and collections rotate frequently, making it a good bet for repeat visits. Guided tours are offered Monday through Friday at 11am. From the second floor you can enter the Busch-Reisinger Museum with its striking German expressionist paintings.
The Collection
Good examples of Gothic religious art grace the lower courtyard, and Renaissance paintings line the spiraling marble staircase. Second-level galleries have deep holdings in French art from Ingres to the impressionists, old master prints and drawings, decorative arts, and American and English silver.
