Editorial Review for Green Mountains Long Trail – by Citysearch Editors
Overview
The 270-mile Long Trail follows the verdant, woodsy ridges of the Green Mountains from Massachusetts to the Canadian border. It's the state's premier long-distance trail, offering prime views and rugged back country with thick woods and bubbling streams.
The Appeal
There are 53 mountains over 2,000 feet in elevation along the Long Trail including six peaks over 4,000 feet--Killington, Mount Abraham, Cutts Peak, Mount Ellen, Camel's Hump and Mount Mansfield, the state's highest point at 4,393. From south to north, the trail starts outside Williamstown, Mass. at the Pine Cobble Trail Head and ends near Carleton Mountain by the border with Quebec. You can either hike the entire trail or stitch together day trips. The Green Mountain Club in Waterbury Center is your best bet for maps and guidance.
