Run Here!. I was given a map for runners at the Omni Parker house, where we are staying in Boston. After a quick trip down charming Cambridge Avenue, I got confused trying to cross the Longfellow Bridge and ended up running along the Esplanade instead of crossing the Charles river. What good luck! It was a perfect spring day, joggers were everywhere, the river to my right was sparkly and practically smiling and waving at me. Just beyond the river and just across the street, gorgeous old buildings. To my left, little streams and quaint little bridges. I wish I had brought my camera, because every ten feet I wanted to stop my run and either hug a tree or gasp with pleasure and soak up the view- what I loved best were the cherry blossom-ish trees and drapey willows against the backdrop of the river. I could have run forever!
The crown jewel of the Charles River Basin, a favorite spot for outdoor types, music lovers and families..
In Short
This stretch of riverside space between Mass Ave. and Longfellow bridges is flush with sailboats, recreation and lots of skin. Joggers, cyclists and in-line skaters can make a stroll feel like walking across a roller rink. The Esplanade is home to the Hatch Shell, Boston's famous outdoor music amphitheater, two playgrounds and landscaped hills, lakes and bridges. It's also home to Community Boating, a sailing club offering rentals and lessons.
Perfect Spot. The Esplanade is the greatest part of Boston. Nowhere else in the city is as nice of a getaway as the bank of the Charles on any kind of day. Be it rollerblading, biking, tennis or just relaxing, the Esplanade has it all. My fave.
9.5.
Esplanade is a great place for all ages. I love to just sit next to the water and watch the boat, or bring my roller-blade. It's one of my favourite place to hang out in Boston.

Truly Romantic. I love it! It is truly romantic place to be with someone special. Great view! I would not want to be anywhere else... .
Summer fun. I love the esplanade. I used to walk there from Cambridge all the time in the summer. Strolling along the river in early evening in the summer is a lot of fun. You can bring a book or a blanket with a picnic basket and enjoy a nice evening on the esplanade. Of course, every year during July 4th, the Boston Pops plays in the Hatch shell, and you can catch a free show on the esplanade. The Pops plays along to the fireworks, so it is quite a spectacular site.
