Editorial Review for Head of the Meadow Beach – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Truro has some of the most beautiful beaches on the cape, and Head of the Meadow is no exception. It actually comprises two beaches; one is operated by the town, the other by the Cape Cod National Seashore. The latter is the only one with a lifeguard.

After going to beaches from ME to FL, this beach is one of the nicest in NE. The water was crystal clear and clean, not too cold (67). The sand was a bit course but nice and there was only a bit of seaweed. The life guards were diligent and appeared to be watching all the swimmers. There was no list of "nos" like in RI state beaches. People could play ball, skim board and boogie board. There was a great sand bar to head out to - also patrolled by life guards. As an added treat there were 100's of seals in a sand bar about 1 mile up the beach. My son was surf fishing from the beach and caught a striped bass one evening. Cons: new restrooms but still "porta-potty" w/o running water. $15 parking fee (National Sea Shore) We'll be headed back next yr.

This one is tops on my list! The sand is incredibly clean and smooth, and allows for easy walking near the water. The incline from the parking lot to the beach is minimal (a welcome relief after visiting Race Point in Provincetown!) The surf is strong but there are shallow areas and sandbars that cater to younger or weaker swimmers/waders. The tide comes in towards you as usual, but there is also a current that comes in to the right, so the two actually end up colliding with each other. The water is clean, beach is expansive, and is overall a very picturesque place to visit. Take your camera & lots of film! (People also enjoy volleyball and fishing at this location.) -- Kas
Pros: Very scenic, Easily accessible, Very clean
Cons: Smaller parking lot, Summertime parkng fee, Didn't see many shell
