Editorial Review for Lexington Battle Green – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Lexington Green was the stage for Act I of the most momentous day in U.S. history: April 19, 1775, the outbreak of the Revolution. The town's historical society operates three related sites, complete with British musket holes: Buckman Tavern, where the Minutemen gathered; Munroe Tavern, commandeered later by the Redcoats as a military hospital; and the Hancock-Clarke House, where Paul Revere and William Dawes warned Samuel Adams and John Hancock that the British were coming.

Insider Tips

When to Go

The battle is re-enacted at 5:30am every Patriots Day, followed by a pancake breakfast and parade. Come early and dress warm.

Know Before You Go

There was a second revolution over Lexington Green when the town refused in 1934 to let it become a national park. So the visitor center is run by the Chamber of Commerce and is little more than a souvenir stand, although it has a decent diorama of the battle.
