It doesn't look like much from the outside. But it's a gem in the history of Boston sports and politics..
The History
It looks like a tiny warehouse from the outside, but enter through the arch to the front gate and you're walking into a piece of sports history. The walls have echoed with the words of five presidents. Heavyweight champions Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis fought here. Figure skating champions from Sonja Henie to Nancy Kerrigan have performed at this ancient arena. In 1993, it held the funeral of Reggie Lewis. It was the original home of the Bruins and Celtics, as well as the hockey teams from BU, BC, Harvard and, of course, Northeastern.
Over the Limit
With a listed capacity of 4,400 (117 being obstructed view seats), as many as 6,200 tickets are sold for NU basketball games and 5,700 for the various ice shows that make their way to the arena throughout the year.
