Editorial Review for Lumiere – by Eric Grossman
The Scene
An exceptionally welcoming, and pricey, neighborhood restaurant, Lumiere honors its name ("light" in French) by filling its dining room with calming woods, white linen and candlelight. Efficient servers point out the menu's many intricacies while looking out for empty water glasses. Couples form a high-brow date by combining a meal with an indie flick across the street at the West Newton Cinema.
The Food
Lumiere's signature dish, seared sea scallops served atop a dollop of potato mousseline with fresh mushroom vinaigrette, personifies its commitment to upscale, crowd-pleasing fare. Carnivores revel in a luxurious Wolfe's Neck Farm steak, served with a beef marrow-brown butter jus, roasted garlic creamed spinach and crisp french fries. Entrees feature artful preparations of fresh fish (mustard and walnut-crusted Atlantic halibut) and game (brined and roasted Niman Ranch pork chop). Desserts like Tahitian vanilla bean creme brulee and a peach-almond crisp do not disappoint.

This isn't simply the best restaurant in MetroWest. This probably the best restaurant in the entire Boston area. On a recent trip to NYC, and wanting to sample the best that New York has to offer, we dined at Jean Georges. After waiting nearly 2 hours !!! past our reservation time for a table, the food was just OK. Returning to Boston and looking to "make-up" for that experience, we went back to Lumiere and were blown away once again. Michael Leviton is a culinary genius and I feel lucky to have Lumiere within driving distance. I'm only rating this 5 stars, but he deserves six!
Pros: EVERY LITTLE DETAIL
Cons: can't think of one

My husband and I have been there 3 times. We loved the ambience, romantic and mellow. The food was excellent, though pricey; the waitstaff helpful, though there seemed to be many of them. I would definitely recommend Lumiere for a special occasion, or a treat for close friends.
