Tips for Legal Sea Foods - Long Wharf

consistently good seafood. I've eaten at several Legal Seafood locations and I find the seafood and other menu choices to be consistently good, the service to be friendly, and the ambiance pleasant. I recommend Legal over other Boston Seafood Restaurants and cant help but wonder if some of the the sniping is planted by the competition.

Not the only choice for seafood. In a city that is literally right on the water, many visitors end up at Legal Sea Foods, looking for that "authentic" seafood experience. Which is a shame, considering there is better seafood to be had in Boston at lower prices. Legal Sea Foods is fine, if not generic, and most definitely over-priced. Their chowder is thick and slightly gloopy, but the French bread rolls are delicious. Fish is cooked well, but it's nothing to write home about, and the variety of sides will please just about any diner.

But frankly, seafood restaurants shouldn't smell like seafood. Legal Sea Foods always smells fishy, which is just not right.

Good if you like well done. I have been to this place several times. Their motto: "if it isn't fresh, it isn't legal" is a joke. Everything is always so overcooked, you would never be able to tell if it were fresh or not. My litmus test for a good seafood restaurant is whether or not they can properly cook a rare tuna steak. Legal failed this test not once, but twice at two different locations! Over the years, we have sampled lobster, and swordfish - and always overcooked, dry, and tough! Three strikes, you're out. If you have to go to this place, order something safe. The chefs either have minimal training or are so overloaded they can't pay proper attention to what they're doing. Naked Fish or Skipjacks are better bets.

Good luck!

Overpriced, Red Lobster. When you travel to the coast you hope to eat a great seafood dinner. This place was a joke! We ordered wine and our apppetizer and were asked not once, but four times to please place our order, long before the appetizer ever arrived. To be honest, we were waiting to see and taste the appetizer because the place reaked of the smell of FRIED fish and I was worried about the quality. Our waitress finally got rude and told us to place our order just as the appetizer was placed on the table. My husband ordered surf and turf. Yes, I know it isn't wise to order steak in a seafood place, but get real! What they called filet mignon was a chopped steak at best! I had crab legs (mostly because I was so offended at being severely rushed and I knew they would take forever to eat.) Very Dry! Hey, Legal Sea Foods. Don't claim something you cannot deliver! It just makes you look stupid!

Avoid the Clam chowder. My friends and I each had a bowl of the New England Clam chowder and it was a major disappointment. One of my friends didn't even finish their bowl. The chowder had no flavor and it was watered down. I have had better clam chowder out of a can. The service was good, but I will try never try this restaurant again.

Best Clam Chowder in Boston and my favorite restaurant.. Ive eaten at most of the locations. The quality of the food is always consistent and the clam chowder is amazing. For lunch, try the spicy fish and chips. Its not too bad so dont worry. I took my friend here when he came to visit me from San Diego. He loved it. Had the baked scrod.

If youre visiting here for the first time, you have to come here at least once. My favorite locations are the one on the waterfront near the Aquarium and the one near Park Plaza.

Really bad. Appetizers were ok, ordered a $95 bottle of wine and had to ask 3 times for wine cooler. Finally got it.

Ordered lobsters, husband's was cooked ok, but he said dry, not like when in Maine. Mine, was undercooked and I didn't realize it till I ate a few bites. Sent it back, and came back still undercooked. Was told I had to wait 8 - 12 hours if I'd be sick. Yes, they didn't charge, but who cares about the money, I wasn't looking for free food, I was looking to eat a nice dinner. Instead I spent the night worrying if I'd be sick. Thankfully I wasn't but the point is it should never have happened from a place that says it has high quality control standards.

Quality food and Service. Recently went and ordered oysters as an appetizer. Reasonably priced and delicious. The food came out in time and the champagne was great. Visited the P.F in The Prudential Center. Great music, great food. Plan on going back soon.

Decent food, terrible service.. I went to Legal Seafood on my first visit to Boston. My idea was to have some good fresh seafood near my hotel. The result was devastating. We ordered oysters and clams as appetizers and tuna and trout as main courses. To drink we had a nice Napa Sparkling Wine.

The meal came down to this. We first received the main courses, then the oysters, and at last, when we were almost finished we had the wine... Then we get to pay at the table. Not only we had to input the tip but we even had to slide the credit card.

I won't go again even though the food was ok. Kumamoto oysters and raw tuna... how can you go wrong?

Poor management... I've been to other Legal Seafoods restaurants and they've been better. It looks like someone doesn't pay attention to the details here. Reservations are sometimes not met- you end up waiting for a table the same way if you hadn't called in adavance. People will be waiting and there will be plenty of empty tables but no waiters.. Many more things just like this.

Also a general Legal Seafoods thing. I know these are supposed to be good seafood restaurants but I haven't found the food to be better than anywhere else. I've had lobster bakes here.. and they're so over priced and really not that good. Nothing really stands out. If you want good seafood don't go to a chain liek this
