“The atmosphere, even at the newly designed and renovated restaurants, reminds me of a Lum's cafeteria, the service is sketchy, and the food, quite honestly, is ordinary.”
“The best crab cakes, loaded with large meaty chunks of crab with a delitefull salad as an appetizer.”
“The servers and the bar tender were snotty, the food was mediocre at best and definitely overpriced.”
“Yes, they didn't charge, but who cares about the money, I wasn't looking for free food, I was looking to eat a nice dinner.”
“The wine list was extensive, and the restaurant itself is beautiful.”
“Leagal Sea foods is a good place to go if you love sea food and I would say love sea food because they do have great sea food but they are s.”
“Waited forever, poor service, below average food and EXTREMELY OVERPRICED.”
“The food is good but the price leaves a sour taste in your mouth.”
“Service is slow (usually crowded) and the place is not as cozy as it could be.”
Overrated Food! Ridiculous Prices! Tourist Trap!. When I lived in Boston, I tried Legal Seafoods a number of times and each time it got worse. The clam chowder is tasteless and the steamers were something to laugh at. The prices are way too high for what they give you and the quality is just unacceptable. The service is less than great and the wait (even with a reservation) is just ridiculous. This place is a total tourist trap and I've stopped going.
Forget a reservation. Have to agree with the last poster, reservations mean nothing here. When I arrived on time for my reservation, I received a beeper, I asked why do I need this I am on time for my reservation. They stated it will be a few minutes. I was seated after all the other people in the front waiting where seated, which took 45 minutes. Food was very good, but not great. Good portions. Servers where going in and out of the front door where patrons go in to serve the patio guests, which I felt was a bit unprofessional for such a nice place.
Bad Food, Terrible Service, Astronomical Prices.. I was relocated to Boston in Fall 2006 and this was selected as one of my first places to visit. Oh my God!! What a dissapointment!! Having reservations already, it took myself and a friend over two hours to be seated (what a joke !). I still did not give up since I was thinking the good food may be worth the long wait. The food was bad, totally average and nothing spectacular. The server had absolutely NO IDEA about wines and/or about the food. Both servers were not even familiar with the menu !! One entree was forgotten and it took another hour to get it. Not to mention, they brought a completely different entree that the original order. What a mess!! My dish said it had rice and it did not come with it and I decided to asked for it: What a surprise, the server came back after 30 minutes to tell me they don't have rice and brought bread instead. What the heck was that for?. Save yourself a trip and the agravation... DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE !!!
Worst service EVER. I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life at this restaurant. I had 6:15pm reservations on a Monday night and was seated upon arrival. But then.... we waited.... and waited..... and waited..... 15-20 minutes before a waiter came to our table at all! No water, no bread, no taking orders, no nothing! This is totally unacceptable, especially for a pricey restaurant!! You'd think that once a waiter realized we were getting no service that everything would be great from then on, wouldn't you? Nope!! The food did come in OK time, but water refills were completely slow or non-existent and getting the check took another 15-20 minutes and then waiting for the leftovers to be put in a paper box and returned to our table took another 10 minutes. Totally insane. (Oh and by the way it's a horrible date place because it was SUPER LOUD in there and totally crowded and the seating had everyone crammed in there -- all on top of the ridiculously bad service! And this was a weeknight to boot!) I will NEVER go back!!
Disappointing. Gave the Kendall Sq Legal's a second try even though it was completely average the first time. Should have stayed away. The famous chowder was unstintingly mediocre (Whole Foods makes much better chowder, for goodness sake) and my husband's onion-crusted fish was inedible. He described it as "bland white fish covered in oatmeal." Our server and the manager were very kind and apologetic - the service was great - but when the manager offered us a free meal in the future we had to chuckle. Will NEVER go back.
As you can tell from other reviews I like Legal Sea Food. I have never had bad food or bad service from any Legal Sea Food location. I am a raw bar lover and order clams and oysters from legal all the time, it's always been fresh, and I'm picky from where I will eat raw seafood especially now a days. I'm sorry to read about other less than pleasant reviews because I always make it a point to visit either of the Legal Sea Food when I'm in boston. I do recommend them! And no I don't work for them or even know anyone who does.
over priced seafood. My last experience there was absolutely horrible. The food was soggy and had green stuff ouzing out of it. When we complained about the food they sent over the manager and he emabarassed us. Long story short..very overpriced disgusting food!
great seafood. make reservations !!! / pricey but totally worth it ! / nice atmosphere with excellent customer service.
Really good food. Everytime I go to Boston I eat there. Everything I've ever had there was very good. The clam chowder is great. Service is good too. It is a little pricey, but I think that it's worth it overall.
Great Seafood in a Classy but not stuffy setting. I had never eaten at Legal Seafood before and had heard that it was a chain and the service was good but you can't count on the quality of the food. Not true. I had swordfish and it was excellent with great flavor, good texture and a healthy portion. My sister had the shrimp trio and two out of the three were great and the third was sort of ordinary- but good. The ambience was nice and the service was really good and the food was good. I will definitely go back there next time I'm in Boston.
