Healthy, Flavorful Dishes.
Purple Cactus makes it easy for you indulge by offering healthier ingredients like whole wheat or spinach tortillas, brown rice, and low-fat cheese and sour cream. Vegetarians and vegans alike will also appreciate the animal-free add-ons like black beans, which can traditionally be cooked with animal fat.
Service is quick and friendly, and the dining area provides a bird's eye view of Centre Street's diverse crowd. After eating, bus your own table and use the recycling center to create compost with your leftovers.
Healthy, delicious, inexpensive, AND eco-friendly? I think I've found my new go to Mexican in JP.
best salad in the universe. I love the Santa Fe Chicken Salad ...yum...and have gotten most of my friends addicted as well...The Lime Cilantro dressing is very delicious.....the burritos are really good but let's face it , they are healthy so it's not going to be cheesy and full of fattening stuff which is what your typical burrito is......the salsa is amazing ....and I dig the guac as well....chunks of avocado a bit spicy, ....just heaven...I would recommend Purple Cactus and especially the salad
Keep walking!. If you like overpriced, bland burritos, this is the place for you. Serious lack of ambiance with too many tables in too little space. The extras (sour cream and guac) are really small portions and add up to BIG dollars $$$ before you even know it. I have to agree with the last few reviewers and will not recommend the Purple Cactus. .A couple of new quick food places have opened up very close to this place recently with bigger protions, better food, and better prices.
Not a great experience.... Decided to try this place with my brother and sister who were in town for a few days cuz I had walked by a few times and it seemed ok from the outside. Not a good experience... SLOW service, messy tables, watery chilli (ick!), ,VERY expensive for the food that was delivered. Don't mind paying for a good, hot burrito, but this place just isn't worth it for the food you get. Bland drippy burritos, and they take your wallet by charging extra for every little thing that most other burrito places include!! Also, they ask you if you want different things on your burrito but don't tell you that these things are extra charges until you have to pay. WHOA - Our bill ended up being WAY more than we had anticipated. My suggestion is to avoid this place and go elsewhere.
Don't waste your money.
I try to give eating establishments the benefit of the doubt byt going back 2 or 3 times (staff might be having a bad day, maybe they are short staffed b/c someone called in sick, you never know...) but this place has been consistently bad. First, the counter staff could care less about answering questions or about your order (and I thnk I have even encountered the owner with that attitude!). I don't think they want you to stay and eat your food because the seating is dreadful - very limited and uncomfortable high tables with really bad seats. I will never go back and I wish I had not even gone back to give tham a third try. The last time I was there the table I tried to sit at was a mess (greasy and dirty) and when I asked for something to clean it off I was handed a napkin.
The food is over priced for what you get and they can't seem to remember exactly what you want with your food. You don't get much value for what they have. There are other, much better places to eat in JP and surrounding areas - stay away from this one!!
customer service?. There's nothing i hate more than buying food and the person at the counter has a look on their face that they could careless. Was the food good? sure, but when someone gives the impression that i'm ruining their day by asking them to do their job I have a hard time going back. Do yourself a favor, go to Anna's or Boca Grande. I still think La Verdad is the best in Boston
Get A Smoothie and Skip the Food. Not bad, not great. The outside was more exciting than what I found inside. Burrito was average, maybe not even worth the price. The smoothie was fabulous, though.
Casual J.P. eatery churns out offbeat wraps and burritos, as well as fresh salads and smoothies..
In Short
One of Jamaica Plain's quicker, cheaper options for healthy meal, the Purple Cactus attracts a suitably eclectic crowd. After choosing a tortilla or wrap (white flour, whole wheat, spinach, red chile), patrons opt for fillings like grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, goat cheese and ginger-peanut sauce. Fresh salads and soups round out the food offerings. Health-minded customers rarely depart with out a freshly-squeezed juice or fruity smoothie.
