The Scene
A happy home for intermediates and novices--mostly young professional families who hail from the southern burbs. Its location in southern Vermont means Stratton is a convenient drive, which also happens to be its biggest problem. The mountain gets seriously maxed out and skied off on holidays and weekends, and when the North wind howls, the 12-passenger gondola becomes everyone's favorite lift. Savvy skiers know that's the time to head over to Bromley, the cross-country trails or the fitness center.
The Slopes
Stratton features wide trails that are well-groomed boulevards, a couple of twisty narrow classic runs like Drifter, plus some black diamond stuff like World Cup and the mogul trails in Sun Bowl. Snowmaking is first-class (covering 82 percent of the terrain), as is the lift system. All the trails conveniently converge at the bottom, making life easier for families and skiers of different skill levels.

Parking is always going to be a pain no matter where you go with skiis and snowboards. If you get right down to its hard to please everyone but when you take the average between the terrain, the amenities, the town and the driving distance I can honestly say I plan to return to Stratton with my family and friends more than any other resort in the NE for both winter and summer! They have a bigger plan and it's been thought out well.
Pros: Family mountain, Town estetics, summer vacation
Cons: NYC lift prices, Parking

Stratton is a great cruising mountain for up to advanced intermediates. But don't expect really challenging terrain. It's location in the southern part of Vermont also means a shorter season than those resorts further north. The developments at the base village by Intrawest gives Stratton the best integrated village in Vermont.
Pros: Base village, Grooming, Lifts
Cons: Expensive, Variable snow, New York crowds
