Editorial Review for Comedy Store – by Allison Heartinger
The Scene
The darkest comedy club of 'em all. This pitch-black box on the Sunset Strip is rumored to be haunted by performers (and mobsters) of old. Presiding over the joint since 1972 is the Shore family, first by matron and stage mother Mitzi, now son Paulie. Three rooms feature comedy seven nights a week: Main Room, Original Room, and the intimate Belly Room upstairs. Watch your step around this place; they saved the lights for the stage.
The Draw
A virtual "who's who" of comedians have and continue to perform here. Roseanne, Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey, David Letterman, Andrew "Dice" Clay and Robin Williams all cut their teeth on Comedy Store stages. Many still drop in to try out new stuff. If you're a stand-up comedian today, you're playing this club--or trying to.

Insider Tips
Save MoneyGet in free Sunday and Monday from 7pm to 8pm for "Pot-luck," similar to open mic. After that, it's $5 for "Pop-ins," where established and celebrity comedians try out new material.
Know Before You GoUnlike most clubs, you can call the Comedy Store anytime after 9am and a real person--not a recording--assists with reservations.
The ExtrasParking is expensive, and traffic brutal--make the most of your visit and walk to Carney's next door for post-set munchies.

I went on a night when there was like 15 comedians.... i don't know, maybe that is typical?... They were good, some were a lot better. What I like was: the guy I spoke with on the phone about times and more info, etc was SO friendly and enthusiatic about the two different shows.. I want to say his name was Mike ro something.. (sorry... i dont remember) -- the guy at the door when we arrived was very nice, accomodating, and great, the comedians were great, the waitress was actually friendly (i read the reviews about them beforehand so maybe I had low expectations...?), and we didnt wait too long for drinks -- although she looks extremely busy... afterwards, the cute girl bartender was giving us the scoop on my favorite comedian -- whom i stalked after the show of course....... ahhhhhhhhh ... bobby lee... what a guy. All the comedians there awesome though, Kirk Fox, Dov Davidov, etcetc.... fun night. But wish I would have made out with at least one of them ... ok, ok,.... i am married.. what of it??? :)
Pros: Everyone there was great
Cons: cant really think of any.... is that stupid??

I haven't been to the "COMEDY STORE" in years! I always thought it would be to crowded or a hassle, but I was totally wrong! I really don't understand the bad reviews on here (which I read before I went) and I went on a Saturday night! OK- $20. parking, but if you are aware of the towing scam the City of West Hollywood has, it is worth it. I went on a Blind Date and had a great experience. First of all, it's not that expensive to get in and my bar bill was less than $25. and that included a $10. tip I gave. It was not crowded and I saw some big names (I forgot? some Mad TV people). For seeing around 10 acts and laughing so hard my jaw hurt, it was well worth it.
Pros: Outside Bar if you want to smoke
Cons: $20. parking
