Even though happy hour isn't technically legal in Massachusetts (the state's puritanical laws forbid the slashing of alcohol prices during the week), there are still amazing bar deals in Boston. While discounted booze is disallowed, a sneaky loophole means absurdly cheap food. For the food lover with a shallow pocket, check out some of the "appy hour" deals around Boston.

Though no beach is in site, the Palm Restaurant reminds us of a relaxing sandy day away from city life. Relax your wallet, too: Monday through Friday from 5pm to 7pm, The Palm has Happy "Ours" Palm specials, such as sliders, crab cakes, calamari and chicken fingers for $3.50 per small plate.
Dinner doesn't get cheaper than free! Splash serves a complimentary buffet dinner as part of its Rush Hour promotion on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 5pm to 10pm. Those blessed with the XX can enjoy Ladies Night Out, a complimentary three-course dinner every Wednesday.
Transport yourself and your friends from your own living room to The Living Room for half-priced appetizers Monday through Friday, 4pm to 7pm. With most appetizers priced at $9 to $13 regularly, it's easy to compose a fun smorgasbord of intriguing small plates. Available in the main lounge only.
Kick back after a long day of work and grab a cold one and half-price appetizers (regularly priced between $5.95 and $10.95) from 4pm to 8pm on weekdays. Crispy Buffalo tenders, grilled chicken quesadillas and spinach artichoke dip will be waiting for you after work.
For those who thought power hours applied only to their pre-21 college drinking days, think again: Morton's "Power Hour" deals range from $4 for Sam Adams, $5 for Cavit Pinot Grigio, $7 martinis and $6 bar bites. The name is a bit of a misnomer: These deals are good every day, open to close.
What's better than your own delicious pizza for dirt cheap? Your own delicious pizza for free, of course! From 5:30pm to 6:30pm every day of the week, Union Bar and Grill in the South End offers complimentary flatbread pizza at the bar.
Skip yoga and meditate on this: Everyday in the lounge, OM entices customers with half-price appetizers from 5pm to 6pm. Try the crispy calamari fries with chopped cherry peppers, a Caesar salad, or Thai mussels with coconut milk, chilies, basil, shrimp toast. On Mondays, prepare to reap even more goodies: for $10, you can order 6 signature momos (normally priced $7) and a signature cocktail of choice.
Fans of this sports bar/college club hybrid can rejoice further yet. JTree, as it is lovingly called by the locals, offers anything off their entire food menu at half price with the purchase of a beverage. The deal conspires Mon-Fri 6pm-9pm. If you're a wings-and-football type o' guy, watch the game while chowing down on 25 cent wings on Mondays. JTree also proudly presents a 2-for-1 burger deal on Wednesdays.
Every Thursday night at Ivy from 5pm to 7pm, Ivy offers flutes of bubbly Prosecco for $5 each and palatable paninis for $5 each.
Roll up your days' frustrations and eat it: literally. On Tuesdays from 4:30pm to 11pm, $6 buys 3 tacos from a wide range of premium meats including prime skirt steak, slow roasted salmon belly and tuna tartare. Wash your Spanish sustenance down with a margarita or some sangria ($8/glass, $16/pitcher). Bar and lounge only.
Lit majors and low-budget Beantowners, rejoice. Every night from 5pm to 7:30pm, the dinner menu is half price with the purchase of at least $3 beverage at this Harvard Square eatery.
