Pie. The very word strikes hope, joy and crusty pleasure into the heart of everyone who knows what's right in the world. And though we're smitten year-round, once a year on Pi Day, March 14 (get it? 3/14?), the obsession ratchets up a few geeky notches with copious amounts of pie (whether pastry or pizza) to celebrate its homonymic mathematical counterpart. Get a round--yup, we totally just went there--with our irrational (groan!) Boston picks.

Petsi Pies is the mothership of happiness baked into a pan, from bourbon chocolate pecan to apple crumb. You can also try the bakery's version of Momofuku's eponymous Crack Pie, with Petsi's house-recipe oatmeal cookie crust piled with a so-wrong-it's-right filling of butter, sugar, milk powder and cream. If you're hungry and impressionable, don't say we didn't warn you.
If soy rocks your world, celebrate the never-ending sequence of decimal points at Allston's independent hub for vegan-friendly, gluten-friendly pizza (yes, there is more than one kind of pie). Cruise in for Peace's slice of the day--think organic tofu ricotta, organic spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes--or make your own pie with tantalizingly meat-esque meatless toppings like Canadian "bacon" or apple sage "sausage."
