You know the story: It's the holidays, and guests stop by for a night or two ... or three. Suddenly your hospitality is stretched to the limit, and you need an overflow solution, like yesterday. Lucky for you, Boston is home to several hotels that offer high comfort without high prices. It's a win-win situation: You get critical breathing room, and they explore the city at their leisure. Call it a houseguest's home away from (your) home.

The Chandler places visitors right in the heart of Boston's chic South End, and the recently renovated guesthouse offers holiday houseguest rates for select dates in November, December and January. There are economy guest rooms and, at a slightly higher charge, newly refurbished modern boutique-style rooms. Additionally, winter special packages include overnight accommodations and breakfast at a nearby restaurant.
Situated right in the Back Bay, this rejuvenated historic hotel is perfectly located for shopping and buzzes with nightlife via the hotel's own Mini Bar lounge and Saint club. The renovated Copley boasts boutique fittings and reasonable rates for the holiday season. Prices include a complimentary early evening wine social in the lobby lounge for guests, as well as free coffee and tea all day. Another perk: The hotel is super dog-friendly, so family and friends can bring their pooch, too.
This relative newcomer to Boston's continued boutique-ification adds "affordable luxury," with low winter rates and extra discounts for extended stays. Guests enjoy a fully equipped kitchenette, which allows family members to prepare dishes or store leftovers in the suite. Free wireless or plug-in Internet service, expanded satellite TV, domestic phone calls and continental breakfast are also included.
This charming guesthouse, perched by the bustling traffic hub that leads to Cambridge Street, is much more than cheap and cheerful. It's an elegant oasis with rates that are equally charming. Free Wi-Fi helps keep the bill low, too. The prime location means guests are steps from the Charles/MGH subway station and a few feet from the delights of Beacon Hill.
Throughout the year, this sleek hotel offers rates that are comparable to nearby budget places. Guests can bask in the elegant surroundings, ice skate on the hotel's rink during winter months, or hang out on the hotel's lovely outdoor plaza when weather permits. The accommodations are dog-friendly, and the hotel's location is perfect for browsing the boutiques and historical sights of Harvard Square.
